Syed Gowhar Andrabi is an Assistant Professor at the School of Textiles & Design, Heriot-Watt University. He holds a Doctor of Design degree and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA). His work bridges theory and practice in design, focusing on pictogram systems like PCSoRT to promote religious tolerance and effective visual communication. With 18 years of industry experience, he has collaborated with design studios and branding agencies globally.
His teaching spans branding, motion graphics, design thinking, UI/UX, and data visualization. His research explores abstract concept representation through pictograms and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in fostering inclusive communication systems.
Publications include works on visual communication, spirituality in art education, and critical pedagogy. His research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to design theory and practice.
