Sybille Frank

Sybille Frank is a Junior Professor for Urban and Regional Sociology at the Institute for Sociology, Technische Universität Berlin. Her research focuses on heritage and tourism studies, comparative city research, and the sociology of space and place. She has edited key publications including Turn Over. Cultural Turns in Sociology (2010), Stadium Worlds (2010), and Städte unterscheiden lernen (2014). Her doctoral work on Berlin’s Checkpoint Charlie as an international heritage site won the Humanities International prize (2012), later published in English as Wall Memorials and Heritage (2016).

Frank’s academic contributions bridge urban sociology with heritage studies, examining how spaces reflect socio-political dynamics. She actively participates in international conferences, including sessions on contested urban heritage in divided cities and critical approaches to diasporic heritage.
