Svenja Feiler is a Researcher at the Institute of Sport Economics and Sport Management at the German Sport University Cologne. Her work focuses on analyzing the economic and organizational dynamics of sports clubs, particularly their resilience to crises, volunteer management, and financial sustainability. Previously a PhD student in the same institute, she has contributed extensively to the Sportentwicklungsbericht (Sport Development Report) project, a longitudinal study tracking German sports clubs' development since 2005.
Her research interests include sports club governance, volunteer recruitment strategies, and the intersection of sports organizations with civil society and public policy. Notable projects include investigations into flood-affected regions' sports club resilience and the economic impact of sports clubs in German federal states like Saxony-Anhalt and Rhineland-Palatinate.
Feiler has received the DOSB-Wissenschaftspreis 2023/2024 and SMAANZ Best Conference Paper Award 2024. She collaborates with institutions across Europe to study organizational capacity, volunteer satisfaction, and social inclusion in sports clubs. Current research trends include analyzing post-pandemic recovery strategies and the role of competition in organizational development.
