Dr. Sven Bergmann is a cultural anthropologist and Lecturer at the University of Bremen, concurrently serving as Research Associate at the German Maritime Museum (DSM) where he coordinates the 'Ship and Environment' research/exhibition area and acts as Ombudsperson for Good Scientific Practice. His career includes prior roles at Charité Berlin, Max Planck Institute, and Humboldt University.
Research focuses on:
- Maritime & Environmental Anthropology: Human-sea relationships, pollution governance
- Speculative Ecologies: Microplastics, UXO, and 'slow disasters'
- Waste Economies & Infrastructure: Sociomaterial flows of pollutants
- Decolonial Globalization Studies: Labor, transnationalism, gender
He directs major projects:
- EU Interreg: North Sea Wrecks (project lead) and REMARCO
- DFG Network: Waste in Motion
- Exhibitions: Toxic Legacies of War, MINING
