Suzy Whoriskey serves as Director of Knowledge Exchange and Knowledge Exchange Fellow in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Strathclyde's Faculty of Science. Previously, she held positions as Assistant Professor and Postdoctoral Researcher at University College Dublin.
Her academic foundation includes:
- MSci in Statistics with Work Placement from University of Glasgow (2015)
- PhD in Statistical Genetics from University of Glasgow (awarded June 2020)
- QQI Project Management Level 6 certification
- Professional Certificate in Teaching and Learning
As an applied statistician, Dr. Whoriskey specializes in developing innovative statistical methodologies for practical data challenges. Her research emphasizes Bayesian statistics, computational statistics, latent variable models, and population genetics. She has successfully applied her expertise to diverse domains including neuroscience (developing diagnostic tools for Alzheimer's Disease using blood spectroscopy) and agricultural science (analyzing milk composition to determine cow diets).
Her publication record demonstrates strong interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly at the intersection of statistics, healthcare diagnostics, and food science. Her work consistently bridges theoretical statistical development with practical implementation for real-world problems.
Her professional recognition includes:
- Nomination for UCD Teaching Award (2020/2021)
Dr. Whoriskey maintains extensive collaborations across sectors, working with biochemists, computational scientists, physicists, medical professionals, and charities throughout the UK and Ireland. She currently leads multiple knowledge exchange initiatives including the 'KE in Maths + Stats Seminar' series and research on collaborative cultures in technological universities. Her projects demonstrate strong connections between academic research and industry applications.
She actively contributes to the statistical community through her advisory role with the Royal Statistical Society and participation in numerous professional development activities for early career researchers.
