Suzy Hansford holds the position of Senior Lecturer in Counselling & Psychotherapy within the Allied Health, Social Work & Wellbeing department. She currently teaches on the BSc Critical Approaches to Counselling and Psychotherapy and MSc Contemporary Creative Approaches to Counselling and Psychotherapy programs. Previously, she taught at the University of Leeds, University of Huddersfield, and Leeds Beckett University.
She earned her PhD from the University of Leeds in 2019, focusing on how language shapes the therapeutic relationship in counselling and psychotherapy. Her research interests include language, storytelling, and creative methodologies in psychological research. Her recent work explores LGBTQIA+ experiences in therapy through qualitative studies.
Her 2024 publication examines LGBTQIA+ individuals' therapeutic experiences and the role of creative therapy. She is currently accepting PhD students for 2024 and is affiliated with the Research Centre for Arts and Wellbeing.
