Suzanne Whitten

Suzanne Whitten is Senior Lecturer in Political Theory and Philosophy at Queen's University Belfast's School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics. Her research examines freedom of speech conflicts through republican political theory, feminist philosophy, and recognition theory.

Research focuses on harmful speech responses, academic freedom, and discursive democracy in plural societies. Whitten leads the AHRC-funded Critical Civility Project developing philosophy programs for Northern Irish youth. Her monograph 'A Republican Theory of Free Speech: Critical Civility' establishes a neo-republican framework for expressive respect.
