Suzanne Singletary

Suzanne Singletary serves as Professor in the College of Architecture & the Built Environment at Thomas Jefferson University, holding dual leadership roles as Director of the Master of Science in Historic Preservation and the Center for the Preservation of Modernism, alongside her current position as Associate Dean for New Academic Initiatives and Graduate Studies.

Her academic foundation includes a PhD in Art History from Temple University, an MA in Art History from the University of Denver, and a BFA from Temple University. These credentials underpin her expertise in architectural and art historical scholarship.

Professor Singletary's research explores interdisciplinary connections between art, architecture, literature, and music, with specialized focus on historic preservation theory and the restoration of modern/mid-century modern structures. Her work critically examines how cultural narratives manifest in built environments, particularly through case studies of significant architectural works and artistic movements. This integrative approach bridges visual culture with preservation practice.

Her publication trajectory reveals consistent engagement with 19th-20th century transnational artistic dialogues, evidenced by major works on Whistler's Franco-American connections and Neutra's modernist architecture.
