Suzanne Scanlon is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), where she teaches courses like 'Walking Writing' and 'First Year Seminar: Contemporary World Issues.' She holds a BA from Barnard College (1996), MA in English Studies from Illinois State University (2003), and is completing a Northwestern University Litowitz Fellowship in Creative Writing (MFA/MA). Her work bridges experimental literature, feminist critique, and narrative form.
Scanlon's publications include the memoir Committed (Vintage, 2023), novel Promising Young Women (2012), and Her 37th Year, An Index (2015), praised for its innovative structure. Her writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The American Scholar, and Fence Magazine. Her interdisciplinary projects include collaborations with Martine Syms' MoMA exhibition and installations at Sector 2337.
Her research explores intersections of mental health, literary form, and feminist discourse. Recent works examine narrative fragmentation, urban experience, and artistic identity through experimental prose and critical essays. Scanlon's translations and international publications include French (Les Editions du Portrait, 2024) and Swedish editions of her work.
