Professor Suzanne Richards is a Professor of Health Services Research at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Division of Primary Care, Palliative Care and Public Health. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from Cardiff University and a PhD in Social Medicine from the University of Bristol. Her career spans managing clinical trials, advancing methodological expertise in applied health research, and leadership roles such as Deputy Director of the Exeter Clinical Trials Unit (2015) and Research Lead for the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences (2017-2020). She established the Leeds Unit for Complex Intervention Development (LUCID) in 2019 to support intervention design and evaluation focused on 'Ageing Well'.
Her research interests center on improving health and well-being for older adults through complex interventions in primary and acute care. She specializes in mixed-method approaches, including intervention design, psychometrics, and process evaluation. She is a member of the National Executive Committee of the Society for Academic Primary Care and leads national career development initiatives for primary care scientists.
Prof Richards’ work spans diverse areas such as mental health in cardiac rehabilitation and reducing social isolation through community mentoring. She actively oversees postgraduate research opportunities and collaborates within interdisciplinary groups like the Leeds Institute of Health Sciences and the Surgical Technology research cluster.
