Dr. Suzanne Bench is a Professor of Critical Care Nursing at London South Bank University (LSBU) and Director of Nursing (Research) at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust. She holds dual roles in academia and clinical practice, focusing on critical care nursing, patient recovery post-ICU, and workforce development. She completed her PhD in Nursing at King’s College London (2014) and a post-doctoral fellowship in Improvement Science (2015-2016).
Her research emphasizes patient-centered care, shared decision-making, and co-design with former ICU patients. Key projects include the F-ACT initiative addressing post-critical illness fatigue and SEISMIC-R exploring nursing workforce models. She co-leads the NIHR/HEE-London Post-Doctoral Bridging Scheme and chairs national nursing alliances like UKCCNA (2020-2022).
Dr. Bench is an associate editor for Intensive and Critical Care Nursing and contributor to critical care textbooks. Her work aligns with UN SDGs related to education and health equity. Notable national roles include membership in the UK Critical Care Research Group and NHSE transformation steering groups.
