Suzan ÖKTEN is a Professor at the Department of Pharmaceutical Microbiology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Trakya University. She holds a Master’s degree (2002) and a Doctoral degree (2008). Her research focuses on antimicrobial agents, bacterial resistance mechanisms, and microbial genetics. She has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed articles and several projects funded by TÜBİTAK and other institutions.
Research Interests: Dr. ÖKTEN’s work spans antimicrobial drug design, molecular biology techniques for resistance analysis, and fungal diversity studies. Her projects include investigating efflux pump inhibitors in Acinetobacter spp. and evaluating next-generation sequencing for fungal biodiversity assessment. She has also explored environmental and hospital-related microbial contamination, with a focus on public health implications.
Grants & Projects:
- TÜBİTAK 1001: Study of Lactobacillus acidophilus on miRNA expression in colon cancer models (ongoing).
- TÜBİTAK 1001: Research on antimicrobial compounds from marine actinomycetes (ongoing).
- TÜBİTAK 3001: Synthesis and evaluation of novel heterocyclic antimicrobial compounds (completed).
Collaborations & Labs: She collaborates with researchers in molecular biology, pharmaceutical chemistry, and environmental microbiology. Her lab focuses on drug discovery, microbial genomics, and hospital infection control strategies.
