Dr. Suzan Scheffer is a faculty member at the Artificial Intelligence Department of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen. She is a neuro/psycholinguist with expertise in language processing, bilingualism, heritage languages, and aphasia.
- PhD in Neurolinguistics (2017–2022), University of Groningen
- Former PhD Researcher (2019–2020), Macquarie University
Research Interests: Suzan focuses on Turkish heritage speakers' processing of evidentiality, the interplay between language experience and grammatical competence, and cognitive-linguistic assessment tools for aphasia. Her work employs electrophysiological methods like EEG/ERP.
Recent Publications analyze evidentiality acquisition in heritage speakers, Turkish adaptations of aphasia diagnostics, and cognitive-language interactions. Her research bridges computational models with clinical applications.
Academic Activities include presentations at the Linguistic Society of New Zealand Conference, Academy of Aphasia Annual Meeting, and IDEALAB Winter School. She actively contributes to psycholinguistics and clinical linguistics through conference posters and talks.
Teaching encompasses courses on general linguistics, speech and language technology, and psycholinguistics within the BSc Artificial Intelligence and MSc Computational Cognitive Science programs at the University of Groningen.
