Suzan M. Pritchett serves as Professor of Law and Director of Clinics & Experiential Education at Drake University Law School since 2018, overseeing clinical programs that provide students with practical legal experience in immigration, human rights, and family law contexts.
Her academic credentials include a JD with distinction in Transnational Law and Contemporary Problems from the University of Iowa College of Law, a first-class honors MA from the University of Sussex (United Kingdom), and a BA from Grinnell College.
Professor Pritchett's research critically examines intersections of immigration law, gender justice, and international human rights frameworks. Her work applies feminist legal theory to challenge systemic barriers faced by vulnerable populations, particularly immigrant victims of violence and refugees navigating complex federal-state dynamics. She investigates how evidentiary rules and judicial interpretations impact marginalized communities' access to justice.
Her publication trajectory reveals sustained focus on gender-based violence in immigration proceedings, refugee resettlement policies, and international criminal accountability. She analyzes rape shield laws' applicability to U visa applicants, critiques federalism's role in refugee distribution, and examines gender bias in International Criminal Court prosecutions - consistently centering human rights perspectives.
Her scholarly impact is recognized through the Wyoming Bar Champion of Justice Award (2017) and University of Wyoming Extraordinary Merit Award (2016-17), highlighting her contributions to legal practice and education.
As Director of Clinics, she leads experiential learning initiatives including the Family & Immigrant Justice Clinic and International Human Rights Clinic. Her nationally recognized presentations at Harvard Law School, Royal Geographical Society, and Wyoming Public Television demonstrate her commitment to translating academic research into public discourse on immigration and human rights.
