معرفی
Professor Sushil K. Misra is a distinguished physicist at Concordia University with over 50 years of research experience specializing in Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. His work spans both theoretical and experimental aspects of condensed matter physics, with significant contributions to understanding magnetic materials, nanomaterials, and quantum systems. He has established himself as a leading expert in multifrequency EPR techniques and their applications to diverse material systems.
Dr. Misra earned his M.Sc. from Gorakhpur University (India), followed by a Ph.D. in Physics from St. Louis University (USA). He completed post-doctoral work at the University of Toronto and later obtained additional qualifications in French literature and translation from Concordia University.
Professor Misra's research focuses on experimental and theoretical condensed matter physics with specialization in Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR), also known as Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) or Electron Magnetic Resonance (EMR). His laboratory features X-band (~9.5 GHz) and Q-band (~35 GHz) CW EPR spectrometers operational between 4.2-1000 K. His current research includes experimental EPR studies of functional nanomaterials like dilute magnetic semiconductors and high-temperature superconductors, as well as theoretical work on pulsed electron spin-lattice relaxation using Stochastic Liouville and Liouville von-Neumann Equations.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on advancing EPR techniques for distance measurements in biological systems, quantum computing applications using EPR, and investigations of magnetic properties in novel nanomaterials. The research shows consistent development of sophisticated pulse sequences and theoretical frameworks to extract precise structural and dynamic information from complex systems.
Throughout his career, Professor Misra has supervised ten Ph.D. students, ten Master's students, and eleven post-doctoral researchers. His research has been continuously supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) for over five decades. He maintains an active collaboration with ACERT (Advanced Center for Electron Spin Resonance Technology) at Cornell University, working with Professor Jack Freed, a leading EPR expert.
Professor Misra's laboratory at Concordia University houses advanced EPR instrumentation for both continuous wave and pulsed measurements. His research group collaborates extensively with international partners, particularly through the ACERT facility at Cornell University, to conduct high-frequency EPR studies. The lab focuses on developing new methodologies for extracting structural and dynamic information from complex magnetic systems.
