Dr. Sushil Adhikari is a Professor in the Department of Biosystems Engineering at Auburn University, where he serves as Director of the Center for Bioenergy and Bioproducts. He also holds the interim roles of Associate Dean for Research in the College of Agriculture and Interim Associate Director of the Alabama Agricultural Experiment Station (AAES).
- Ph.D. in Biological Engineering from Mississippi State University
- M.S. in Energy Technology from Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tribhuvan University, Nepal
His research focuses on biomass conversion technologies including gasification, pyrolysis, hydrothermal liquefaction, and torrefaction, with particular emphasis on biochar applications and renewable fuel production from agricultural and forest residues. Current projects include USDA-funded phosphorus mitigation strategies, DOE hydrogen production initiatives, and NSF-supported bioprocessing education.
Recent publications demonstrate expertise in bioenergy systems, waste valorization, and catalytic conversion processes. Key areas include biochar modification for nutrient retention, plastic-biomass co-processing, and sustainable aviation fuel production. The work spans environmental protection, agricultural enhancement, and advanced fuel development.
