Univ.-Prof. Dr. Susanne Wagner is a Professor of English Linguistics at the Department of English and Linguistics, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. Previously, she held positions including Departmental Lecturer at the University of Oxford (teaching and supervising MSt/MA/DPhil students) and Leverhulme Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Kent. Her academic trajectory includes a postdoctoral habilitation at Chemnitz University of Technology (2012), a PhD from the University of Freiburg (2003), and studies in English Philology, Latin Philology, and General Linguistics (Magister Artium, 1998).
Her research focuses on sociolinguistics, language variation and change in L1 English, morphosyntactic features, and dialectology. Key interests include traditional dialects of Southwest England and Newfoundland, corpus linguistics, and statistical modeling. She has supervised theses on topics such as Multicultural London English, Twitter hashtag usage, and 19th-century Irish emigrant letters.
Wagner is affiliated with the Teaching and Learning Research Lab (LLF) and actively engages in quantitative sociolinguistics and comparative studies.
