Susanne Strand is a Professor of Criminology and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Örebro University, Sweden. She leads the Centre for Violence Studies (CVS) and the research group Stalking and Partner Violence (SToP), and holds an adjunct position at Swinburne University of Technology’s Centre for Forensic Behavioural Science in Australia. Her research focuses on preventing interpersonal violence, stalking, honor-based violence, and risk assessment strategies involving police, social services, and forensic psychiatry.
Key research initiatives include the RISKSAM program (2019-2025), a collaborative effort with law enforcement and social services to implement structured risk management models. Her work emphasizes gender perspectives and applied criminology, addressing vulnerabilities in victims and offenders through evidence-based practices. She has authored/co-authored over 150 publications, including books on forensic psychiatry and criminological methodologies.
Notable projects include evaluating interventions for domestic violence in rural areas, analyzing stalking case recidivism, and developing tools like the Stalking Assessment Screen (SAS). Her contributions span policy recommendations, educational resources, and interdisciplinary collaborations to mitigate violence through systemic and individualized approaches.
