Joakim Petersson is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at Örebro University's School of Behavioural, Social and Legal Sciences. His research focuses on intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetrators, risk assessment/management, and multi-agency collaboration. He leads projects funded by the Swedish Research Council (Forte), including RISKSAM (2019–2025) and evaluations of IPV treatment services (2023–2025). He is affiliated with the Stopping and Intimate Partner Violence (SToP) research group and the Center for Violence Studies (CVS).
Education: PhD in Health Sciences (Mid Sweden University, 2020), Master's and Bachelor's in Criminology. Awards include the 2020 Örebro Student Union Pedagogical Award for teaching excellence. He teaches at undergraduate/graduate levels, supervising theses in criminology and victimology.
Research emphasizes IPV perpetrator subtypes, rural/remote area challenges, and interventions. Key publications analyze social workers' experiences in rural IPV risk assessment, police/social service collaboration, and victim vulnerability. His work informs policy and practice in Sweden and internationally, including EU Commission consultations on IPV prevention.
