Susanne Houstle

Susanne Houstle serves as Visiting Assistant Professor of Costume Design at Baldwin Wallace University, bringing over 15 years of professional experience across theater, dance, and film industries. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, she previously worked extensively as a costume designer, assistant designer, and costume maker in Boston and New York City.

Her educational foundation includes an M.F.A. in Costume Design from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, where she earned a full-tuition fellowship. Houstle's creative scholarship centers on storytelling through devised performance and historical narratives, with significant emphasis on sustainable practices including material repurposing and vintage integration for immersive world-building.

Recognized for her NYU Tisch fellowship, her work bridges artistic innovation with ecological responsibility. As an educator committed to emerging artists, she has taught at Drew University and Fairleigh-Dickinson University prior to her current position, maintaining active mentorship in costume design disciplines.
