Susanne Herold

Susanne Herold is Professor of Lung Diseases at the University Hospital Gießen-Marburg, where she heads the Department of Infectiology within the School of Medicine at Justus Liebig University Giessen and Philipps University Marburg.

Her research focuses on infectious diseases with particular emphasis on lung infections and antiviral therapeutics. Professor Herold's work bridges basic infection research with clinical applications, especially in aerosol medicine for targeted respiratory drug delivery. Her presentation in the BIH Lecture Series highlighted ongoing work on formulations for aerosol deposition compound modifications and the SERENDEX project, addressing high disease burden areas in respiratory infections.

As a clinician scientist, she presented her translational research approach in the 'Frontiers in Translational Medicine' series on March 4, 2020, discussing the pathway from infection research to novel antiviral drug development.
