Susanne Hehenberger is a historian affiliated with the University of Vienna's Department of History and serves as a curator in the archive of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna. Since 2018, she has co-edited the Lexicon of Austrian Provenance Research, a digital project launched in 2019. Her academic roles include university lecturing since 2002 and tutoring in history since 1998. She holds a PhD in philosophy (2003) and has been a DOC fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2001–2003).
- Current projects include FWF research on post-divorce legal frameworks (2024–2028) and Austrian National Bank-funded work on historical map archives.
- Her scholarly focus intersects provenance research, early modern criminal law, and gender studies, particularly in analyzing sodomy trials, marriage annulments, and museum provenance during National Socialism.
Recent publications examine sodomy as a criminal offense, Friderike Klauner's biography, and digital editions of provenance archives. She has received notable awards including the Michael Mitterauer Prize (2005) and DOC Fellowship (2001–2003). Her teaching spans university seminars on early modern history and guided tours through museum archives for international audiences.
Key collaborations include work with Andrea Griesebner, Monika Löscher, and Konstantin Ferihumer on interdisciplinary projects. She actively contributes to public historical discourse through lectures, documentary interviews, and digital initiatives.
