Susanna Valanne is an Adjunct Professor and University Lecturer in Biosciences, specializing in immunology and molecular biology using Drosophila melanogaster as a model organism. Her research focuses on innate immunity pathways, including Toll and JAK/STAT signaling, and their regulation in response to infection. She has contributed to studies on immune response mechanisms, proteasome function, and carbonic anhydrase roles in physiology.
Her work connects immune signaling with metabolic pathways, as seen in studies linking lincRNA-IBIN to both immunity and metabolism. Valanne has supervised doctoral and master’s students in projects examining negative regulators of Drosophila immunity and cellular immune responses. She has co-edited special issues on Drosophila innate immunity and contributed to reviews on Toll pathway and JAK/STAT dynamics.
Collaborations span international teams, with research emphasizing functional genomics and proteomic analyses of immune systems. Her publications span over two decades, reflecting sustained contributions to understanding innate immunity mechanisms in model organisms.
