Susanna D. Peters

Susanna D. Peters serves as an Associate Teaching Professor at Michigan Technological University, where she holds dual roles as Social Sciences Program Advisor and University Ombuds. Her teaching portfolio spans Constitutional Law, Intellectual Property, Cyberlaw, Law and Society, American Government, and specialized Perspectives sections including "Crime and Incarceration" and "The Work of the First Amendment: Selected Topics in First Amendment Law".

She earned a JD from the University of Pennsylvania (1990) and an MS in Agricultural Economics from the University of California at Davis, where her resource economics focus originated from summers spent in Yakutat, Alaska. Her academic journey includes clerkships with United States District/Circuit Court Judge Morris Arnold and U.S. Magistrate Judge Komives, followed by labor law litigation at a Los Angeles firm and faculty positions at Wayne State University Law School prior to Michigan Tech.

Dr. Peters' research integrates Constitutional Law, Intellectual Property, and Cyberlaw with Prison Studies and Resource Economics, reflected in her course development on incarceration systems and First Amendment applications. She actively mentors students as faculty advisor for Michigan Tech's Mock Trial Team, bridging theoretical legal frameworks with practical courtroom simulations.

Prior professional experience includes private practice as a litigation associate specializing in labor law after her federal clerkships. Her unique background in agricultural resource economics—shaped by Alaskan fieldwork—complements her legal scholarship, particularly in resource allocation and regulatory frameworks within constitutional contexts.
