Susann Schweiger is Professor for Human Genetics at the University Medical Center Mainz and Director of the Institute of Human Genetics since 2012. She is also a board-certified clinical geneticist (2006) and founding director of the Center for Rare Diseases in Mainz (2016). Her career includes leadership roles in the ReALity initiative (since 2018) and academic positions at Charité Berlin and Ninewells Hospital in Dundee.
- Education: Dr. med. (MD) from Innsbruck Medical School (1993)
- Training: MD-PhD thesis at Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Freiburg under Georg Schulz (1990-1992)
Research Focus: Human genetics, molecular medicine, and rare diseases. Her work bridges clinical genetics with translational research through leadership in specialized centers.
Honors:
- Lichtenberg professorship of Volkswagenstiftung (2005-2010)
- Research fellowship from Max-Planck-Society (1995-1997)
- Member of Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes (1987-1993)
