Susann Detko is a doctoral candidate and lecturer at the Ernst Abbe University of Applied Sciences Jena (EAH), affiliated with the Faculty of Social Work's Department of Social Work. Her research focuses on the impact of 'Duldung' (tolerated residency status) on the integration opportunities and living conditions of young adult refugees in Germany. She is part of the PüDE project at EAH, investigating structural barriers and integration challenges faced by individuals under this status. Her work emphasizes biographical analysis and inclusive methodologies using translators to ensure accessibility.
Her doctoral project, supervised by Prof. Dr. Frederik von Harbou (EAH) and Prof. Dr. Christine Wiezorek (Justus Liebig University Giessen), addresses paradoxes in migration policies that individualize structural issues. The research highlights the tension between restricted rights under Duldung and demands for integration achievements.
Funded by the PüDE initiative, her work contributes to understanding systemic exclusion and potential pathways for equitable integration. She actively engages in academic and applied social work contexts, reflecting her commitment to social justice and policy-relevant research.
