Professor Susan Whitfield is Professor in Silk Road Studies at the University of East Anglia's Sainsbury Institute. An internationally recognized Silk Road scholar, she previously curated the British Library's Dunhuang collection and directed the International Dunhuang Project.
Her research encompasses Silk Road historiography, medieval art, manuscript studies, and textile history. Current work focuses on the Nara to Norwich project examining cultural exchange along Silk Road termini. Whitfield has curated major exhibitions and received the IIAS Book Prize for most accessible humanities work.
