Susan Walker is Professor in the School of Early Childhood and Inclusive Education at Queensland University of Technology. Her research focuses on inclusive education and developmental outcomes for children, particularly in complex and pluralistic contexts. She examines how educational practices support social inclusion and moral development in early childhood settings.
Her research investigates:
- Moral reasoning in early childhood
- Epistemic cognition development
- Teacher-student relationships
- Inclusive practices for at-risk students
- Social inclusion in play contexts
Walker's longitudinal studies examine how children develop understandings of right and wrong, form inclusive attitudes, and navigate social relationships in educational settings. Her recent work focuses on epistemic beliefs, bullying prevention, and support for students with developmental disabilities.
She has led multiple Australian Research Council projects on topics including children's moral reasoning, teacher education for diverse learners, and disruptive school behavior. As a key researcher in the Cooperative Research Centre for Living with Autism Spectrum Disorders, she contributes to longitudinal studies of Australian students with autism.
Walker teaches research methodology and supervises graduate students researching inclusive education, early intervention, and parent involvement in education.
