Professor Susan Shenkin holds a Personal Chair in Healthcare for Older People at the University of Edinburgh, affiliated with the Deanery of Molecular, Genetic and Population Health Sciences, Centre for Population Health Sciences, Centre for Clinical Brain Sciences, Edinburgh Neuroscience, and the Usher Institute. She leads interdisciplinary research focused on geriatric syndromes including delirium, dementia, and frailty, with particular emphasis on care home populations and data-driven innovation.

Her publication portfolio demonstrates strong focus on delirium detection/management, dementia care pathways, stroke outcomes, and geriatric assessment methodologies, frequently employing systematic reviews and healthcare data analytics across clinical and care home settings.
Professor Shenkin leads multiple research initiatives including 'Building a Scottish care home data asset' and 'Duration of External Neck Stabilisation following odontoid fracture in older adults'. She teaches courses on aging challenges, research methods, and evidence-based medicine, while advocating for flexible academic careers.
