معرفی
Dr. Susan Scott serves as an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at Lakehead University's Orillia campus, where she has been a faculty member since August 2007. As one of the two founding faculty members of the Orillia Social Work program, she plays a pivotal role in shaping social work education in the region.
Her academic credentials include:
- PhD in Sociology, York University (1989)
- MSW in Policy and Research, McGill University (1982)
Dr. Scott's research portfolio spans domestic violence response systems, policing practices, community-based interventions, harm reduction frameworks, and policy development across youth justice and children's services. Her current SSHRC-funded projects examine police responses to domestic violence calls and harm reduction implementation in Ontario women's shelters, demonstrating her commitment to evidence-based practice in high-impact social service domains.
Her extensive professional background encompasses community agency work, government policy analysis for ministries including Community and Social Services and Justice, and ownership of a consulting firm serving federal/provincial/municipal clients. She established the Orillia Social Work program's field education system, providing foundational coordination, supervisor training, and student seminars during the program's critical launch phase.
Methodologically, Dr. Scott employs participatory action research integrating quantitative and qualitative approaches, with active collaboration between academic researchers, community agencies, and police services to develop contextually appropriate interventions for complex social issues.
