Susan Rowley is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology and Curator of Public Archaeology at the Museum of Anthropology (MOA) at the University of British Columbia. She holds a Ph.D. in archaeology from Cambridge University and specializes in public archaeology, material culture studies, repatriation, and Indigenous knowledge systems. Her research emphasizes collaboration with Indigenous communities in Canada's Arctic/Subarctic regions and on the Northwest Coast, particularly focusing on First Nations communities in British Columbia and Inuit communities in Nunavut.
Her work integrates museum practices with community engagement, including roles in the Reciprocal Research Network (RRN) since 2005 and co-curation of exhibitions like c̓əsnaʔəm, the city before the city (2015). Key research streams include museum anthropology, Arctic archaeology, and the ethical management of cultural heritage.
Teaching focuses on museum practice and curatorship through courses like ANTH 431A/C. Her publications address topics ranging from digital heritage interfaces to collaborative research methodologies, with a strong emphasis on decolonizing practices in archaeology and museum studies.
