Susan Rowan

Susan Rowan is a Professor and Dean at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry. She has earned three degrees from the university and leads initiatives in antibiotic stewardship, dental care for patients with disabilities, and dental education reform.

Her research focuses on opioid and antibiotic prescribing patterns in dentistry, addressing unnecessary antibiotic use, hydrocodone rescheduling impacts, and potentially inappropriate medication combinations for older patients. She initiated a national antibiotic stewardship program and led infrastructure projects for special needs patient care.

Dr. Rowan is a licensed clinical dentist, Executive Associate Dean, and Compliance Officer at UIC COD, with leadership roles in professional organizations including the American Dental Education Association and Chicago Dental Society. She has contributed to seminal publications in JAMA Netw Open, Am J Prev Med, and Open Forum Infect Dis.
