Susan Quick is a Research Fellow and part-time doctoral student at the University of Birmingham's School of Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences. With over 40 years of industrial experience in the rail industry as a chartered engineer and safety practitioner, she now focuses on ecohydrology and plant science research at the Birmingham Institute for Forest Research (BIFoR). Her doctoral work examines the impacts of elevated CO₂ levels on mature temperate deciduous forests through the BIFoR FACE experiment, aiming to inform climate change mitigation policies. She also volunteers in citizen science projects, including tree health monitoring for Observatree and butterfly transects for Derbyshire Butterfly Conservation.
Education: MSc, BSc(Hons), PGCE (Adult Education), CEng, MIET, MIOSH. Her research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges, blending engineering expertise with ecological studies. Recent publications highlight CO₂ effects on forest ecosystems, soil dynamics, and microclimate impacts. Supervised by Professor Dr Stefan Krause, her work contributes to understanding forest resilience in changing climates.
Labs/Teams: Affiliated with BIFoR. No awards explicitly listed. Advising and grants: No grants mentioned, but her research aligns with BIFoR's long-term experimental frameworks.
