Susan Potter is a Senior Lecturer in Film Studies and Academic Leader, External Engagement at the University of Sydney's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. She holds degrees in Law (LLB), Arts (MA), and a PhD in Film Studies from the University of Auckland. Her research focuses on queer media history, particularly exploring the intersection of film as a mass medium with evolving conceptions of sexuality since the late 19th century. She also investigates documentary production methodologies and creative practice pedagogy.
Research Projects: Current work includes a project examining queer self-representation since the 1960s through both creative and scholarly methods, emphasizing archival practices in sustaining queer communities. Past projects include Queer Timing: The Emergence of Lesbian Sexuality in Early Cinema (2019), which received PCA's top LGBT studies award.
