Susan Orr is a Professor in the Department of Political Science & International Studies at the State University of New York at Brockport, holding a PhD in Political Science from the University of Florida (2010).

Research Interests: Her work centers on civic engagement through empirical and normative lenses, examining individual motivations and institutional frameworks. Key areas include election mechanics (e.g., secret ballot systems), workplace-politics intersections, labor union impacts on voter turnout, and worker cooperative influences on political participation. She investigates how institutional structures facilitate or hinder democratic engagement at both micro and macro levels.
Service: Current President of the United University Professions campus chapter and liaison for Washington DC, New York State Assembly, and Public Service Internship Programs. Previously chaired the American Political Science Association’s Status Committee on Contingent Labor and co-chaired its Labor Project, while also leading the campus American Democracy Project Committee to promote civic engagement.
