Susan O'Connor is a Professor at the School of Culture, History & Language at the Australian National University. She leads major archaeological projects in Indonesia, East Timor, Papua New Guinea, and Australia's Kimberley region, focusing on early human settlement, Pleistocene colonization, and Neolithic transitions. Her work integrates environmental impact studies and rock art analysis.
Education: BA (Hons I) from the University of New England (UNE) and PhD from the University of Western Australia (UWA).
Research Interests: Australian/Southeast Asian archaeology, Pleistocene human migration, Holocene symbolic exchange, and rock art. Recent projects include investigating Wallacea pathways and Kimberley boab tree carvings.
Publications: Recent work spans Pleistocene geochemistry, postglacial ecosystems, and cave occupation dynamics. Her articles highlight interdisciplinary approaches in archaeology and paleontology.
Awards: Recipient of the ARC Kathleen Fitzpatrick Laureate Fellowship (2012) and QEII Fellowship (1999-2003).
