Susan Larson is a Professor in the Department of Anatomical Sciences at Stony Brook University. Her research focuses on primate and human anatomy, experimental functional morphology and biomechanics, and human and primate evolution. She leads the Stony Brook Primate Locomotion Laboratory, which investigates locomotor evolution through form/function relationships using state-of-the-art equipment and living primate analogs.
Her work explores how understanding primate biomechanics can provide insights into human evolutionary adaptations and address modern human ailments like shoulder instability and lower back pain. The lab studies diverse primate species (lemurs, monkeys, apes) under ethical protocols exceeding federal regulations.
