معرفی
Evie Vereecke serves as a Senior Lecturer at KU Leuven's Faculty of Medicine within the Department of Development and Regeneration at Campus Kulak Kortrijk. She actively contributes to institutional governance through memberships in the Faculty Council of Medicine, Faculty POC Medicine, and Departmental Council for Development and Regeneration, while also leading the iSi Health - KU Leuven Institute for Physics-based Modeling for In Silico Health.
Her research centers on functional morphology and biomechanics of the locomotor system, with specialized focus on primate anatomy and human evolution. Key investigations include evolutionary adaptations in primate shoulder mechanics, hand/wrist biomechanics during grasping, and skeletal morphology related to locomotion. She employs advanced methodologies such as 3D kinematic analysis, finite element modeling, and in vivo biomechanical measurements to explore form-function relationships across hominoid species.
Analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals a dominant emphasis on primate evolutionary biomechanics (60% of articles), particularly shoulder/hand adaptations in hominoids, alongside clinical applications in foot/wrist biomechanics and medical imaging innovation. Her work bridges paleoanthropology (e.g., Homo naledi lower limb studies) and contemporary clinical challenges through computational modeling and experimental validation.
Dr. Vereecke has secured competitive research funding as principal investigator for multiple projects, including Functional adaptations in the primate shoulder (2024-2027) and Innovative modeling of bone loading from internal morphology (2022-2025). She serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Anatomy, underscoring her scholarly leadership.
Her research is conducted through the Jan Palfijn Anatomy Lab and the iSi Health institute, where her team integrates physics-based computational modeling with experimental biomechanics to advance in silico health applications. Current projects emphasize primate functional morphology while developing translational approaches for clinical orthopedics.
