Dr. Hogan's research focuses on the epidemiology and clinical outcomes of renal disease populations, with particular emphasis on glomerular diseases. She investigates population distributions, risk factors for disease onset and progression, quality-of-life, and therapeutic interventions across various glomerular conditions. Her current research includes evaluating the impact of occupational and environmental exposures on ANCA-associated small vessel vasculitis, assessing how cigarette smoking affects renal biopsy tissue and progressive kidney function loss, and developing community-based programs for kidney disease education and early detection in high-risk North Carolina counties. Her work bridges clinical research with public health initiatives to improve outcomes for patients with kidney diseases.
Dr. Hogan has been instrumental in numerous collaborative research efforts, including the Cure Glomerulonephropathy Network (CureGN), where she has contributed to studies on obesity's impact on kidney and cardiac outcomes, glucocorticoid exposure and infection risks, and clinical decision-making regarding immunosuppressive treatments for glomerular diseases. Her research portfolio demonstrates growing interest in the application of big data approaches to understand rare glomerular diseases and the intersection of immunosuppressive therapies with clinical outcomes.
Dr. Hogan actively participates in developing community-based programs to educate the public about risk factors for and early detection of kidney disease in high-risk counties in North Carolina, demonstrating her commitment to translating research findings into practical public health interventions that benefit underserved communities.
