Susan K. Blessing is a Professor of Physics in the Department of Physics at Florida State University's College of Arts and Sciences and serves as Director of the Women in Math, Science and Engineering Program (WIMSE). She is an active member of the D0 Collaboration at Fermilab and the FSU Experimental High Energy Physics group.
Her educational background includes:
- BS from Illinois Institute of Technology (1982)
- PhD from Indiana University (1989)
Her research spans particle physics with emphasis on electroweak interactions, quantum chromodynamics, top quark phenomena, and searches for new physics beyond the Standard Model. Current work focuses on W boson production asymmetry measurements in the muon channel, while past contributions include the top quark discovery, supersymmetry searches, leptoquark investigations, and glueball studies.
Her notable awards include:
- First Year Assistant Professor Award, Florida State University (1995)
- Dr. Martha Roberts Award, Gold Key Leadership Honorary and Omicron Delta Kappa Society (2000)
- Developing Scholar Award, Florida State University (2001)
As a member of the American Physical Society and its Division of Particles and Fields, she contributes to the particle physics community. She has taught courses including Particle and Nuclear Physics (PHZ4390) and oversees significant detector operations for the D0 experiment's calorimeter system.
