Susan J Gaskin is a Full Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at McGill University's Faculty of Engineering, holding the Brace Professorship. She joined McGill in 1997 and specializes in environmental fluid mechanics and water resources engineering, with significant contributions to experimental hydraulics and sustainable water management.

Her research integrates experimental, numerical, and field approaches to address critical water challenges. Key areas include turbulent jet dynamics in environmental flows, river engineering, fluvial erosion of cohesive sediments, sustainable water supply systems, and potable water quality. She employs advanced techniques like laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) and particle image velocimetry (PIV) to study complex fluid phenomena at high resolution.
Recent publications (2020-2024) reveal a strong focus on turbulent mixing processes, environmental hydraulics applications in hydropower, and interdisciplinary water management solutions. Her work bridges fundamental fluid mechanics with practical environmental engineering challenges, particularly in water-energy nexus systems and trace metal impacts on water quality.
