Chien-Yung Tseng is an Assistant Professor in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Colorado State University. His research focuses on fundamental fluid mechanics, turbulent mixing in environmental flows (rivers, coasts, estuaries), and applications in ecosystem interactions, hydropower, and hydrokinetic energy.
Education includes:
- B.S. Physics (National Tsing Hua University, 2013)
- M.S. Applied Mechanics (National Taiwan University, 2015)
- Ph.D. Water Resources Engineering (University of Illinois, 2022)
- Postdoc: Oak Ridge National Laboratory (2022-2023)
Research combines multi-scale experiments and advanced measurement techniques to study sediment dynamics, ecohydraulics, interfacial transfer processes, and hydrodynamic interactions in vegetated flows. Applications include nature-based coastal protection (oyster breakwaters), hydrokinetic energy optimization, and reservoir thermal stratification.
Recent publications demonstrate expertise in experimental fluid dynamics, sediment transport quantification, turbulence modeling, and sustainable hydropower integration. Article themes bridge fundamental fluid mechanics with environmental engineering applications.
Awards include the IAHR Best Young Professional Award (2021). Tseng directs the E3 Flow Physics Laboratory investigating turbulent mixing, sediment transport, and renewable energy potential in hydraulic systems.
