Susan Hangen is a Professor of Anthropology & International Studies and Dean of the School of Humanities and Global Studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey since joining in 2002. Her academic leadership and research focus on cultural anthropology, international studies, and ethnic politics in Nepal.

Her research explores ethnic politics in Nepal, social movements, transactional organizations, and cuisine in the Nepali diaspora. She co-authored studies on study abroad programs in South India and transnational ethnic organizing.
Her scholarly work trends include ethnic identity formation, political mobilization, diaspora studies, and cultural geography, with keywords spanning anthropology, political science, and globalization.
