Sienna Radha Craig is the Jane & Raphael Bernstein Professor in Asian Studies and a tenured Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Dartmouth College. She also serves as a House Professor at South House, contributing to undergraduate life.
- Education: B.A. in Religious Studies from Brown University (1995), M.A. (2002) and Ph.D. (2006) in Cultural Anthropology from Cornell University.
Her research spans medical and cultural anthropology, focusing on transnational migration, healing practices, global health, and traditional medicine. She examines how Himalayan communities in Nepal, China's Tibetan regions, and U.S. diasporas navigate social change, health, and belonging.
Recent publications include interdisciplinary studies on Tibetan herbal medicine efficacy during the pandemic and ethnographic narratives about Himalayan migrants in New York. Her work combines rigorous scholarship with creative nonfiction, poetry, and collaborative art projects, reflecting a commitment to ethnographic innovation.
Active in academic leadership, Craig co-edited HIMALAYA journal (2012-2017) and serves on the Executive Council of the International Association for the Study of Traditional Asian Medicine (IASTAM). Her fieldwork, supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, Guggenheim Foundation, and Wenner Gren Foundation, bridges Himalayan and North American contexts.
