معرفی
Susan Greenwood is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Division of Developmental Biology & Medicine at the University of Manchester, with a focus on placental development and fetal health. She holds a BSc in Physiology (1997) and PhD in Renal Physiology (1980) from the same institution. Her research centers on placental function in fetal growth restriction (FGR) and related complications of pregnancy. She has pioneered electrophysiology techniques to study placental nutrient transport and ion channel activity. Dr. Greenwood collaborates with Prof Gloria Riquelme (University of Santiago) and is affiliated with the Physiological Society and IFPA. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being. She supervises PhD students in placental physiology and has led projects funded by Tommy’s Baby Charity and others. Methodological expertise includes micropuncture, microelectrode impalement, and primary cell culture techniques.
- Education: BSc Physiology (Manchester), PhD Renal Physiology (Manchester)
- Key Projects: Maternal & Fetal Health Research Centre, Placental Abnormalities Nanotherapies, Trophoblast Cell Turnover in Pre-Eclampsia
- Teaching: Supervises undergraduate and PhD students in placental biology and fetal physiology
Research Focus: FGR etiology, placental blood flow dynamics, amino acid transporter regulation, and trophoblast cell turnover mechanisms. Recent work explores nitrate-independent effects of beetroot juice on vascular function and sildenafil’s impact on placental-specific mouse models.
