Susan Dwyer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Maryland. She holds a PhD from MIT and specializes in moral psychology as a cognitive science discipline, as well as the intersection of academic philosophy and public discourse on contemporary moral issues. Her recent work focuses on AI ethics and includes a book manuscript, Inside Morality, advocating an internalist view of moral cognition.
Her research spans moral psychology, ethics, and transitional justice, with contributions to Al Jazeera America on topics like abortion, pornography, and reconciliation. She has served on the International Advisory Board for the International Journal of Transitional Justice and previously led the Honors College as Executive Director (2016–2020).
Her teaching extends beyond philosophy to include a for-credit course on The Philosophy & Practice of Yoga, reflecting her dual role as a Registered Yoga Teacher and academic. She has also published widely on moral development, cognitive science, and the ethical dimensions of free speech and censorship.
