Susan Densmore-James

Professor Susan Densmore-James is affiliated with the University of West Florida's School of Education, Department of Teaching, Leadership, and Research. She serves as Director of the Emerald Coast Writing Project, enhancing teacher training and writing pedagogy.

Education:

• Bachelor's in Liberal Studies Education from San Diego State University
• Master's in Reading Education from the University of West Florida
• Doctorate in Language Arts and Reading Education from Florida State University (2011)

Research Interests:

Her work emphasizes engagement and motivation in secondary education, particularly for high-risk students (English Language Learners, Exceptional Student Education, low Socioeconomic-Status). She explores effective literacy instruction for pre-service teachers, emotional intelligence in learning, differentiation of research-based instruction, and the use of Reflections Interactive Notebooks to cultivate critical reflection. Additional interests include spirituality in education, virtual coaching for teachers, and High Impact Practices in pedagogy.
