Susan Bailey is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Clarkson University, jointly appointed in the Lewis School of Health & Life Sciences and the Institute for a Sustainable Environment. She holds a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Ecology from the University of Ottawa, an M.Sc. in Ecology from the University of Calgary, and a B.Sc. in Biology and Mathematics from McMaster University.
Her research employs microbial experimental evolution, bioinformatics, and mathematical modeling to investigate evolutionary adaptation mechanisms. Key focuses include drivers of parallel evolution and the impact of environmental heterogeneity on evolutionary trajectories. Recent publications examine antibiotic resistance evolution, SARS-CoV-2 adaptation, and agent-based modeling approaches.
Bailey teaches BY420/522 (Evolution), BY424/524 (Experimental Evolution Lab), BY345 (The Human Genome), and BY314/514 (Bioinformatics). Her laboratory utilizes statistical approaches to quantify evolutionary processes in controlled environments.
