معرفی
Dr. Rebecca Doyle is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at McMaster University. Her research focuses on the evolution of mutualistic interactions, particularly microbial symbiosis in plants and animals. She employs experimental evolution, genomic sequencing, and bioinformatics to study symbiotic adaptation. Dr. Doyle earned her PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Toronto, with prior degrees from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She holds prestigious early-career awards, including the Tansley Medal and the Jasper Loftus-Hills Young Investigator Award.
Education:
- PhD in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, University of Toronto (2012–2018)
- M.Sc., Memorial University of Newfoundland (2010–2012)
- B.Sc. (Honours) in Biology, Memorial University of Newfoundland (2006–2010)
Research Interests: Dr. Doyle’s work explores symbiotic evolution, microbial cooperation/conflict, and genomic mechanisms underlying adaptation. Her lab (SYM³ Lab) investigates host-symbiont co-evolution and the role of mobile genetic elements in symbiotic traits. She emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, combining experimental evolution with bioinformatics.
Teaching:
- Instructor for courses in Biodiversity, Evolutionary Biology, and Bioinformatics
- Recent courses: BIOLOGY 1M03 (Biodiversity), BIOLOGY 720 (Bioinformatics), MOLBIOL 4CT3 (Molecular Biology)
Awards:
- New Phytologist’s Tansley Medal (Recent)
- American Society of Naturalists’ Jasper Loftus-Hills Young Investigator Award (Recent)
Lab & Community: The SYM³ Lab fosters collaborative training across undergraduate, graduate, and postdoc levels. It prioritizes skill development and mentorship in evolutionary biology, microbiology, and bioinformatics.
