Susan Ann Minear, MD, is a Clinical Professor at Boston University's Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine, affiliated with the Department of Pediatrics. She specializes in developmental and behavioral pediatrics, with over 25 years of clinical and educational experience in newborn medicine, primary care, and child development. She co-created the globally recognized Newborn Behavior Observation (NBO) Curriculum, which has trained over 9,000 professionals in 19 U.S. states and 13 countries. Dr. Minear has held leadership roles, including Medical Director of the Newborn Nursery at Boston Medical Center (1997–2005 and 2019–2024) and current Medical Director of Baby Steps, a multidisciplinary clinic preventing failure to thrive in at-risk infants. She co-led the development of the Eat Sleep and Console (ESC) Guideline to address neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, disseminated widely in Massachusetts and beyond.

Research Interests: Her work focuses on neonatal care innovations, opioid-exposed infants, and quality improvement initiatives. She has contributed to standards for breastfeeding guidelines in opioid-use disorder contexts and NAS care protocols. Dr. Minear’s initiatives have received awards including the Boston Medical Center Nursing Provider Partner of the Year (2018) and the National Gage award for NAS quality improvement (2018).
